Rich Sanger
SEO Consultant in Boston

I’m Rich Sanger, an SEO consultant based in the Boston area. My career has spanned agency, in-house, e-commerce, and digital marketing roles, giving me hands-on experience across technical SEO, keyword strategy, on-page optimization, content, and the ways search connects with broader marketing efforts.

Today, a big part of my work focuses on how search is changing through Google AI Overviews, Google Maps, conversational search, and AI-driven discovery. I research, test, and write about these shifts to better understand where search is heading and what businesses and marketers need to do in response.

I’m also a contributing writer for Search Engine Land, where I write about SEO, Google Search, Google Maps, and AI-related changes in search. My work and research have also been featured, referenced, or shared by outlets and industry communities including SEOFOMO, Search Engine Roundtable, iPullRank’s DealTown, and others. Professionals such as Lily Ray, Glenn Gabe, Barry Schwartz, Cindy Krum, and Dr. Marie Haynes have shared my work or highlighted my insights.

Alongside my research and writing, I’m also the founder of Streetlight Local, a business focused on helping local service companies get found, get trusted, and get more calls. That work keeps me close to the real-world side of search, where rankings, reviews, websites, and local trust signals all affect whether a business actually gets chosen.

My work sits at the intersection of strategy, research, and practical execution. I’m interested not just in what is changing in search, but in how to turn those changes into clear, useful action.

My Approach to SEO

I believe good SEO starts with understanding how people actually search, compare options, and make decisions. That means looking beyond rankings alone and paying attention to the full picture: Google results, Maps, websites, reviews, content, and the growing role of AI-driven answers.

My approach combines hands-on testing, research, and practical strategy. I like digging into how search engines and AI systems behave, but I care just as much about what that means in practice for real businesses, real websites, and real customer decisions.

I also believe SEO works best when it is connected to broader marketing goals. Search does not live in isolation. It overlaps with content, trust, branding, user experience, and conversion, and the best strategies reflect that.
